Krishna Reddy moved to New York University's Department of Graphics and Printmaking in 1976 after leaving Paris. He began focusing on clowns and related subjects after visiting the circus with his daughter Apu in 1978, a motif that would occupy him for more than two decades.
A clown stands in front of a crowd of his own peers—fellow clowns. With a smile on his face, he holds a bird in his hands. He appears to be positioned peering through an opening in a screen—the colors in the left and right thirds of the image are less vivid than those in the center. The lines and beams of the circus tent extend outward from the central image into a green surrounding border.
