Dreamers Dreaming

Jack Gerber's Dreamers Dreaming, 1985, presents elegant women, or perhaps a single subject in varied model-like poses. Three figures occupy the top of the print, interacting with their colorful surroundings. At the bottom of the composition, a larger figure lies in a recumbent pose beneath flowers in a decorated vase resting on a table, adding to the intricate layers illustrated. To the right of the vase, a dog sits in a seemingly protective posture, its head turned to look outside of the picture plane. The crosshatch styling employed within the print incorporates an organic, impressionistic quality to the figures depicted. Along with those themes, the vivid palette adds liveliness and movement, as well as a dream-like sensibility. Appearing in the top right corner, the title, Dreamers Dreaming, is colorfully presented along the border of the print.
