From the Artist
I want to communicate my ideas and feelings through images that are unequivocal in their thrust and direction. The expressions I present force the viewer to confront the world hidden by social politeness and smiling politicians. This world exists on the fringes of our consciousness and society yet is more honest and relevant in its struggle and perspective.

Anastasia Alexandrin's Jack in the Box #1 and Jack in the Box #2 confront the viewer by depicting a human head atop a jack-in-the-box toy. The figure's head is meant to stare back at the viewer and aligns with Alexandrin’s conceptual focus on asking the viewer to think about social norms and the politics of politeness.
