From the Artist
Offset printing is a completely new experience for me. Although I have incorporated many diverse media into my work (photomontage, collage, encaustic, etc.), creating an editioned print was uncharted territory. I came [to the Brandywine Workshop and Archives, Philadelphia] with a clean slate, unencumbered with any preconceived ideas or plans. I wanted to create something that was "non-pictorial" and completely spontaneous.
My idea was to utilize the properties of color superimposition to achieveluminosity as well as a sense of freedom. I combined the detailed line art of a drawing with elements of collage (cut paper, tape, blocking out)and painting. Although the offset process is structured and some planning is necessary, I worked as though I were creating a painting.
