For me, painting is an endless search for discovery, reflective thinking, and invention based upon my ancestral heritage. The motifs, images, and icons found in my work are copied, reshaped, and integrated into a contemporary artistic aesthetic.

The paintings of James Phillips offer unique visual interpretation of sound and movement. Phillips demonstrates a vast knowledge of color and immense mastery of his chosen medium. Much of what he conveys through his imagery is inspired by his early arts education and an intrinsic understanding of rhythm and its diverse applications.
