$11,000.00

Sam Gilliam lived and worked in Washington, DC. In 1975, Gilliam made his print Wissahickon while an artist in residence at Brandywine Workshop and Archives, Philadelphia—it was the first print produced as part of BWA's new Visiting Artist-in-Residence program. Gilliam continued to work with BWA throughout his life, producing screen-prints, offset lithographs, monographs, and more, including this 2019 Edition Portfolio revisiting and reexploring Wissahickon. Wissahickon L is one AP from the 2019 Edition Portfolio

In Philadelphia, Wissahickon is the name of a creek (deriving from Lenni Lenape word wisameckham, meaning "catfish creek"), which is the centerpiece of the 2,042-acre Wissahickon Valley Park in Northwest Philadelphia. Adjoining the creek and park is the distinctive Wissahickon neighborhood.
